This summer, I interned as a Global Markets Summer Analyst within the Sales & Trading division at Credit Suisse. My internship was ten weeks long with the first 8 weeks being virtual and the last two weeks being in-person in New York. It was an excellent opportunity to seek an intersection between my passion for finance, strategy, innovation, and analytics. The rotational nature of the internship allowed me to spend three weeks each on Global Execution Services, Global Credit Products, and Equity Derivatives. I collaborated with traders, strategists, and structurers from various product areas, completed daily projects, and pitched stocks and trading strategies. The firm’s client-first approach, innovative strategies, and tailored solutions greatly stood out to me. Their strong focus on research was an excellent opportunity for me to build on my research acumen, as I delved deeper into the animal healthcare sector for my first rotation, open interest and pockets of gamma for my second rotation, and real estate services for my third. We also participated in a speaker series and a weekly trading simulation to gain insight into the global investment process and learned the differences between the buy-side and the sell-side.
Moreover, the culture at Credit Suisse with their supportive, collegial, and collective focus, along with its commitment to diversity and inclusion greatly resonated with me. I was able to connect with a number of senior professionals and business heads and learn more about how they were trying to address the gender imbalance at the senior leadership level and pave the way for women and people of color who will enter the field after them.
Looking back on this summer, I greatly enjoyed learning about financial instruments that are transforming today’s corporate landscape and appreciate this opportunity to meaningfully contribute, collaborate, and grow.
