This summer, I interned as an Investment Banking Summer Analyst at Goldman Sachs in New York City. More specifically, I worked their Financial Institutions Group, covering FinTech, insurance, asset management, etc. I worked on multiple live deals as well as client service projects, diving deep into different business models. It was an incredible experience, full of challenges, successes, and a lot of learning.
Of the nine-week internship, we had one week of training and eight weeks of work on the desk. The first week, we went to the Jersey City office and did training with all the other Investment Banking Summer Analysts. We learned key financial modeling skills, excel and PowerPoint shortcuts, and met our fellow interns. Living in New York was another new experience for me. I learned to navigate the subway system my first week and tried out New York’s signature bagels.
We started out our second week with group-specific training. I learned about different FIG businesses and how they operate, and how my group particularly was structured. Later that week, we were staffed on our deal teams. I was on mostly FinTech and Alternative Asset Management related deals and client service teams and got to learn about how those businesses work. I loved the projects I was on and the people I worked with. Everyone was willing to take the extra time to walk me through a new concept or task and I got to know my teams very well by the end of the summer.
I am so excited to return next summer and extremely grateful to SPIRE for mentoring and guiding me along my journey!
