I spent this summer working at First Eagle Investment Management in New York City as a Business Optimization intern. In this position, I researched how Generative Artificial Intelligence will affect business processes. I had to constantly present new operational plans based on integrating this new technology to executive-level management. I sharpened my public speaking, PowerPoint, and analysis skills. I was able to not only learn how an efficient investment firm is built and run but also learn how these new technologies are going to affect the workforce in the next couple of years. I was also able to talk to various employees on topics like business strategy, product, and vendor management. At the end of the summer, I was able to work on a project of my choice to present to the Chief Administrative Officer. I worked hard on building a data management strategy that united the several operational databases into a data lake where after connecting GenAI agents, employees would be able to query more efficiently.
It was an eye-opening experience that taught me what it is like to work in a very corporate environment while also living alone in a new city. The organizational skills and connections I formed over the past summer will support me in my entrepreneurship journey as I co-lead a couple of education-directed startups. I plan on returning to New York next summer interning at Jane Street as a Strategy and Product intern. This position will rely heavily on the experience that I obtained in the First Eagle role. I am extremely thankful that I was given this opportunity by First Eagle and that the SPIRE program was able to support my commitment to the position.
