Yesenia Velasco is a lecturer in the Computer Science Department at Duke University. She is passionate about supporting students from underrepresented groups in technology and creating welcoming learning environments. Her research focuses on computer science education, while her service work is dedicated to helping teaching assistant programs become more diverse and inclusive. As a mentor, Yesenia is deeply invested in empowering underrepresented students to overcome personal and academic challenges, guiding them on how to thrive at Duke and in their careers. In her free time, she enjoys being with her family and her two dogs, Lady and Wi-Fi.
