Fun Fact

I'm allergic to Durham!

Have you ever spent hours completing a single math problem, arrived at the end of your reasoning and realised the answer was 1? While some (ok many) might find this process a little frustrating, I find it completely fascinating! I’ve always been captivated by problem-solving whether it’s figuring out a complex math puzzle, or navigating a tough situation on the soccer field, or trying to predict the twist in a book before it’s revealed. This curiosity drives my passion for mathematics, particularly in the realm of pure math and proof-based questions. My goal is to dive deeper into these fields, with a particular interest in how they intersect with economics and finance.

Outside the classroom, I’m actively involved in the Duke community. I play club soccer, write for The Chronicle, and volunteer with the Backpack Project which supports those facing homelessness in the local Durham community. I am also eager to continue approaching new opportunities head-on, engaging in research and entering clubs that align with my passion and interest in quantitative finance and educating women in financial matters.

Ultimately, I aim to pursue a career in quantitative finance and education, with the long-term goal of reducing financial literacy disparities and outcomes, particularly for women. Ensuring equal access to financial information for all people is crucial in rectifying the disadvantage that occurs when giving up economic agency in households or when taking time away from workforce to raise children. Often, we are not taught in school or by our families about even the simplest of financial tasks, such as knowing how to budget, how taxes work, or how to save for our financial future. The tools and information needed to navigate these, and more complex financial issues, should be readily available to everyone. Duke provides opportunities to follow such personal passions and make a social impact and I am incredibly grateful to be a part of this community while continuing to grow academically and personally.

I am also completely family orientated, so you will often find me having lunch with my sister, calling my mum on the phone or listening to my brother’s music recommendations! Being so far away from home, I am so thankful for the SPIRE community and all the support that it offers.

What do you like about being a SPIRE Fellow?

Being a SPIRE fellow comes with the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals within an incredibly supportive community. Finding a group of students who have similar passions, enjoy engaging in deep conversations and are eager to learn deeply is extremely motivational and I feel incredibly privileged to be a member of the class of 2028 SPIRE students. I am also excited to have the chance to be mentored by the incredible Duke faculty, the research opportunities and being guided through rigorous STEM subjects! SPIRE is an amazing LLC and I am so thankful to have this opportunity.
