Computer Science Major, I&E Certificate
I can ski backwards
My name is Elijah Straight, and I am a first-year student here at Duke. I am an intended Computer Science major and am also pursuing the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Certificate. It is a personal goal of mine to in the future work at a startup tech company. In addition to SPIRE, I am involved in a variety of programs here on campus. I am on the executive committee for the Duke Business Society, which is an entrepreneurship and business-based student organization here at Duke. I am also involved in the Student Founders program here at Duke, which provides guidance and mentorship to help students launch their own businesses. I would absolutely love to talk to anyone interested in the crossroads between STEM and entrepreneurship!
Serving others has been a large part of my life, and one of my other favorite activities that I am involved with is GANO, which is a program where Duke students teach English to Hispanic members of the Durham community. Previously I was also involved with the Duke Chapter of the NAACP, where we completed a variety of service projects for the Duke and Durham community.
I enjoy being a part of the SPIRE Fellows program because it has allowed me to meet a lot of people here at Duke that normally I never would have come into contact with. SPIRE also provides a variety of resources in order to help the success of its members here at Duke, which has been a huge boost to me.
