Computer Science
I am a nationally ranked chess player.
My interest in STEM really picked up when I was going into my junior year of high school because I was enrolled in summer classes at a coding school in New York City. Ever since my first software engineering class I knew that I wanted to go into computer science. I currently know six coding languages which are Ruby, Javascript, Java, CSS, HTML, and Swift but I am interested in developing my knowledge in these languages further as well as learning new ones. My academic interests also include the humanities such as philosophy and sociology. I love seeing how other classes can somehow relate back to computer science and help me create better programs.
My main hobby growing up was chess. I’ve been playing since I was nine years old and was on my high school’s varsity chess team since I was ten, and I went on to be captain when I was in 11th grade. I am a nationally ranked chess player and am on the United States Chess Federation top 100 List for girls age 18. I also participated in debate, model UN, soccer, and served as a tour guide for my school. I am also very interested in fashion and makeup and would love to somehow find a way to connect this to my love of coding.
My favorite aspect of the SPIRE Fellows program is the support and community that it provides.
